What Google’s E-E-A-T Really Means for Your Chiropractic Website

Welcome everyone to Episode #91 of the Chiropractic Marketing Podcast.

I’m your host, Dr. Patrick MacNamara, and today I want to unpack an acronym you’ve probably heard thrown around in SEO conversations called E-E-A-T because most explanations of it leave chiropractors more confused than when they started. In today’s episode, I want to make it crystal clear — what it actually stands for, what it looks like on a real chiropractic website, and why it’s quietly become the difference between a practice AI recommends by name and one that’s simply invisible to it.

So let’s start with the letters themselves. E-E-A-T stands for Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, and Trust. It’s the framework Google uses to decide whether content deserves to rank — and AI platforms lean on it even harder when they’re deciding which sources are worth citing or recommending. For a chiropractic practice, this isn’t some abstract ranking theory. It’s a fairly concrete set of signals your website either has or doesn’t, and most chiropractic websites are missing more of them than the doctor running the practice ever realizes.

Here’s why this matters more than it used to. Traditional search used to hand a person ten blue links and let them decide who to trust. AI Overviews and chat-based search tools don’t work that way. They make that decision for the patient, selecting a small handful of sources to cite or summarize. And when a platform cites your practice, it’s implicitly vouching for you — which means these platforms are far more conservative about who they’ll stake that credibility on than a traditional results page ever had to be. A chiropractic website with weak E-E-A-T signals doesn’t just rank a little lower. It becomes absent from the conversation entirely — not competing for position ten, just gone, while a platform cites a competitor by name instead.

So let’s talk about what each piece actually looks like in practice, starting with experience. Content credited to a real, named doctor with visible credentials does more for your experience signals than the same words published anonymously. A condition page that reflects an actual clinical perspective — not generic health information copied from a template — reads differently to a patient and to a search algorithm than boilerplate ever will. Real patient outcomes, real case examples, specific descriptions of how a condition is actually treated at your practice — all of that reinforces that the content came from genuine clinical experience instead of being assembled just to check a box.

Expertise and authoritativeness build outward from there. It starts with an author bio that states credentials clearly and links to a dedicated author page — something a properly built chiropractic website should have from day one, tied to what’s called Person schema, which makes those credentials machine-readable to search engines and AI platforms alike. Authoritativeness is the slower piece — consistent business information across the web, mentions from other credible chiropractic or health sources, citations from directories, links from legitimate health and wellness sites, even mentions in local news. Each one is another data point telling a search engine this is a real, established practice — not a site that appeared out of nowhere last month. This is exactly why chiropractic website E-E-A-T is better understood as an ongoing practice than a one-time fix, a point the full breakdown of the framework makes clear in more depth than I have time for here.

Then there’s trust — and this is often the piece patients actually notice, even if they’ve never heard the term. Genuine reviews. Transparent information about the practice and the providers. Booking and contact tools that actually work. Content that doesn’t overpromise. And your local SEO presence plays a role here too — when your Google Business Profile and your website tell the same consistent story, that reinforces the exact same trust signals search engines are already evaluating.

Now, here’s where most chiropractic websites quietly undermine themselves. A blog post or condition page with no byline at all reads as anonymous — to a visitor and to a search engine — no matter how accurate the information is. Generic, templated condition pages that could belong to any practice in the country signal low experience even when the medical information underneath is perfectly correct. A practice name, address, or phone number that varies even slightly across your website, your Business Profile, and other directories undermines trust even when each individual listing is technically accurate. Content with no schema connecting it to a credentialed author means none of that credential information is actually legible to a search engine — it’s just text sitting on a page. And a pattern of ignored reviews, especially negative ones left unanswered, reads as a trust gap no matter what the overall star rating says.

Let me give you a picture of what this looks like side by side. Imagine two chiropractic websites, both covering sciatica. The first has a generic, unattributed article that could belong to any practice in the country — no author, no connection to an actual doctor. The second covers the same core information, but it’s written from the perspective of a named, credentialed chiropractor, referencing how sciatica is actually approached at that specific practice, linked to an author page with real credentials and Person schema behind it. Both pages might be medically accurate. Only one of them gives a search engine or an AI platform a clear signal about who’s behind the content and why it should be trusted — and that difference increasingly determines which page gets cited, recommended, or quietly passed over.

If you’re wondering where to start, begin with the author layer. Make sure every piece of content on your site is credited to a real person with a dedicated bio page, real credentials listed, and schema connecting it together. From there, look honestly at whether your condition pages reflect genuine clinical perspective or generic content that could sit on any competitor’s site. And confirm your business information is consistent everywhere it appears — your website, your Google Business Profile, every directory listing you’ve ever been added to. I actually did a whole episode on building topical authority the right way, if you want to go deeper on that piece specifically.

This is exactly the kind of thing that has to be built into a website from the start — not bolted on after the fact — which is the whole philosophy behind how I build sites over at Chiropractic Marketing Websites. Every site comes out of the build with the author layer, the schema, and the NAP consistency already in place, and because it’s an actively managed platform, not a handoff, that authority keeps getting reinforced month after month instead of decaying the way a one-and-done website build always does. And once that foundation is in place, it’s exactly what DCRank’s ongoing authority work is designed to build on top of — the platform earns the trust signals, DCRank extends the reach.

Alright, that wraps things up for today’s episode…
