Today we’re going to talk very briefly about the software I recommend you run your website in.

In today’s age, you have many software choices when it comes to building a chiropractic website. Matter of fact, a quick Google search may either leave you cross-eyed or needing a good toggle on the ole Atlas.

But allow me to calm your fears, save your sanity and a ton of time dorking around on the Internet trying to figure things out yourself.

Just go with WordPress

WordPress is an easy to use content management system — also known as a CMS — that requires little to no knowledge of coding.

It’s also the most popular CMS in the world by a long shot.

Matter of fact, 58% of all websites that use a content management system run on WordPress.

This equates to over 300 million active websites being online today.

Who’s next in line?

Well, Joomla sits at the #2 spot with Drupal following right behind at #3.

However, neither one of them is even close in terms of market share.

At the time of this recording, Joomla only has around 6.5% of the market and Drupal, 4.8%.

Now, there are some new contenders like Shopify and Squarespace, but they have a long way to go to catch up with WordPress.

Shopify’s market share is only 1.3% whereas Squarespace is only 1%.

Some of the most popular sites I can think of that use WordPress are The New York Times, Forbes, and Facebook’s blog.

Users cite many reasons for selecting WordPress. It’s free and open source, it provides a fairly easy and intuitive interface, can be very search engine friendly, and is also easy to customize with thousands of available plugins and themes.

With that said, make sure you use the self-hosted version of WordPress that’s found over at WordPress.org instead of the freemium version found over at WordPress.com.

There is a significant difference, especially for business owners and people who are interested in monetizing their site.

Alright… let’s move forward with today’s Q & A.

Today’s question comes from Dr. Deborah.

She asks, “How do you keep your practice at the top of Google?”

This is not only a great question but, obviously, a very important question since being on Page 1, especially at the top of Page 1, is so important for local businesses like chiropractors.

But the answer isn’t as straight forward as the question because there are multiple variables that tie into how Google ranks your chiropractic website.

To generalize things, you need to pay attention to the 3 types of search engine optimization, also known as SEO.

The first type is called On-page SEO. On-page SEO deals with optimizing the pages and content of your website.

The second is called Local SEO. Local SEO deals with claiming and managing all of the local directories and citations that represent your business within a local market. This includes sites like Google My Business, Yahoo! Local, Merchant Circle, CitySearch, etc…

The third is called Off-page SEO. Off-page SEO deals with building authority backlinks to help raise your overall search engine result pages (also known as SERPs) in organic search.

Like I said, there are many variables that go into ranking a website. If you have more time than money — for example, you’re still in chiropractic school or just getting started in practice — then I recommend you learn as much about SEO as you can and then start incorporating what you’ve learned. If you have more money than time — in other words, you’re a more established doctor and cash flow isn’t too much of an issue right now — then I recommend leaving SEO to the professionals.
